12 Things We Used to Save That Now Seem Useless

Remember when we used to hold onto all sorts of stuff, thinking it might come in handy someday? Times have sure changed! These days, a lot of the things we used to save religiously now seem pretty pointless. Let’s take a fun trip down memory lane and look at some of the things we used to hoard that now just collect dust or end up in the trash. It’s kinda funny to think about how much importance we placed on these items back then!
AOL CDs
Remember when our mailboxes were always stuffed with AOL CDs? We’d keep them thinking we might need internet access someday. Now they’re just shiny drink coasters. Those free hours of internet seem pretty silly in the age of unlimited WiFi, don’t they?
Phone Books
We used to have a whole drawer just for phone books. Yellow pages, white pages, you name it. Now, when’s the last time you actually used one? With smartphones, we can find any number or business in seconds. Those big heavy books just seem like a waste of paper now.
VHS Tapes
We’d record our favorite shows and movies, labeling each tape carefully. Some of us had whole shelves full of them. Now they’re just taking up space. Even if we wanted to watch them, most of us don’t even have a VCR anymore!
Floppy Disks
These were like gold back in the day. We’d save all our important files on them. Now, they hold less data than a single photo on your phone. If you find a box of these in your attic, good luck finding a computer that can even read them!
Newspaper Clippings
We’d cut out interesting articles or our name in the paper, thinking we’d want to look at them again someday. Now, everything’s online. Those yellowing bits of paper just seem kind of sad now, don’t they?
Old Cellphones
Remember when we’d keep our old phones “just in case”? Now they’re just weird-looking paperweights. With how fast phone technology changes, those old models are practically ancient history.
Maps
We used to have a glove compartment full of maps, just in case we got lost. Now with GPS on our phones, paper maps seem as outdated as a horse and buggy. When’s the last time you had to unfold one of those giant papers while driving?
Instruction Manuals
We used to keep every manual for every gadget we owned. Now, if we need instructions, we just Google it or watch a YouTube video. Those binders full of manuals are just taking up shelf space.
CD Towers
Remember those tall, skinny CD holders that would hold hundreds of CDs? They were a mark of pride for music lovers. Now, with streaming services, they’re just dust collectors. All that music in one little app on your phone!
Old Magazines
We’d keep stacks of old magazines, thinking we might want to read them again or use them for a project. Now they’re just clutter. With so much content available online, hanging onto old magazines just doesn’t make sense anymore.
Birthday Cards
We used to save every card we got, storing them in boxes or drawers. It seemed important at the time, but now they’re just taking up space. In the age of e-cards and social media wishes, paper cards don’t hold the same meaning they used to.
Ticket Stubs
Movie tickets, concert stubs, plane tickets – we’d save them all as mementos. Now, with most tickets being digital, those little pieces of paper seem kind of pointless. Plus, we can relive memories through photos on our phones instead of hanging onto bits of paper.
